Thelocactus bicolor

Place of origin: United States, south of Texas. Center and Northeast of Mexico.

Description: The species is very variable according to its distribution. Type species generally grows solitary, presents globose, oval or cylindrical stem, of about 20 cm. high and 10 cm. wide.
The ribs are 8, although they are 13 in adult plants. They are divided cross-sectionally in tubercles of 1.5 cm. and are oblique.
The areolas are woolly and of white color in the youthful stage.
The radial spines are up to 3 cm. long, thin and somewhat curved, they are between 9 and 18. There are 4 central spines, between 3 and 5 cm. long. Among them the lower spine is bent, but robust and directed downwards. All the spines are colored in yellow and red tones.
The flowers are violet and about 5 or 6 cm. long and the same wide.

Growing tips: The species is easy to grow. Propagation is made by seeds.
