United States, the south of Arizona. Mexico, states of Sonora
and Baja California.
Description: The plant presents columnar
stem, reaching 7 m. high when mature. It send branches from
the base, having between 5 and 20 articles of about 15 and
20 cm. wide.
The ribs are between 12 and 17, acute in the new growings
and somewhat rounded in the older ones.
The areolas are quite next to each other, they are brown and
sometimes silky.
The radial spines are between 9 and 10, straight, and 1 cm.
long. The central spines can be between 1 and 3, long ones,
and the lower can be about 5 cm. All are blackish or brown
in the young parts, and gray in the older growings.
The flowers appear laterally in the proximities of the apex
of articles. They measure between 6 and 7 cm. long, present
scaly tube and are reddish color or violet red.
Growing tips: Propagation is made by cuttings. |
