Argentina, province of Mendoza.
Description: The species presents heavy
and globular stem, or shaped like a barrel, of olive green
color and up to 30 cm. wide.
The young plants present between 18 and 20 ribs, which can
be 30 in adult units, tuberous and about 2.5 cm. wide.
The areolas are gray and almost 1 cm. long.
The spines are between 12 and 20, from which between 1 and
5 are centrals, measuring between 5 and 7 cm., whereas the
rest, clearly radial, can reach 3.5 cm. All are thin, flexible
and their color vary between yellowish and red or a little
brownish.
The flowers can be red or yellow, measuring 8 cm. long and
3 cm. wide.
Growing tips: Requires porous soil. Propagation
is made by seeds. |
