Place of origin: Northwest of Argentina, province of Jujuy.

Description: Small plant with very tuberous root which in remains half buried in habitat, showing approximately 1 cm. from the ground.
The stem is grayish green and can up to 6 cm. wide and the same high.
About 10 spines and glochids are arranged over the areolas. Glochids are few or none near the base.
The flowers are pink and measure up to 3 cm. long. The flowering is diurnal and takes place during.

Growing tips: This species resists cold well if it is dry. Requires full sun and very well drained, porous soil. Specimens in culture, in special grafted ones, presents a bigger amount of glochids than the ones growing in their habitat.
