From western Indies to the north of Argentina.
Description: The plant presents thin ramifications,
is bushy and grows like a tree, reaching the 10 m. high.
The leaves show a main nerve, lateral secondary veins and
short peciole. They are persistent, shaped like the head of
a spear or oblong and fall as the plant grows.
The areolas are in the armpits of the leaves. they are wooly
and present curved, compressed, short spines; whereas the
rest have between 2 and 3 raised and thin spines.
The flowers are scented, of clear white or yellow color and
between 2.5 and 4.5 cm. wide.
The fruits measure about 2 cm. wide, are yellow and edible.
Growing tips: Resists the low temperatures
well. Propagation is made by cuttings during the summer. it
grows fast.
