| Place of origin:
South of Bolivia and the northwest of Argentina.
Description: The plant presents extended
or globose stem, of 15 cm. wide, of intense green color, with
the apical part densely covered with white wool.
The ribs are arranged in spiral, they are tuberous and they
are between 13 and 21.
The areolas are big and woolly ate first, but they become
naked with age.
The radial spines are between 8 and 10, yellowish at first
and white later, of between 5 and 10 mm. long, opened to the
outside and a little curved inwards.
The central spines are heavy, they are 4 or maybe more, measuring
between 3 and 7 cm. They are yellow in the upper part of the
plant and they go upwards. In the older parts they become
clear yellow color and they go downwards.
The flowers are big and orange color, but they can be of carmine
or red color.
Advice of culture: This species grows better
with partial shade. Propagation is made by seeds. |
