Oreocereus
This genus groups a reduced number of columnar cactus, original
from the Andes, in South America.
Its shape varies from big lying groups to columnar species of 3
m. high. All the species are covered by abundant hairs that protect
them from the sun, and from sudden variations of temperature.
The name derives from Greek "Oros", mountain, because
its exclusively mountainous origin.
The flowers appear in summer. Propagation is made by seeds or cuttings.
