Place of origin: United States, states of California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona; north of Mexico, state of Sonora.

Description: The plant is low, reaching up to 1 m. high, ramified from the base and with articles a little raised or crawling. These articles are oval, grayish green, and of between 12 and 20 cm. long.
The areolas are covered with a yellowish wool, and reddish color little hairs appear generally around them. They contain many red or brown glochids, and not have spines, although sometimes it can be only one in the upper areolas.
The flowers are red or pink and between 5 and 7 cm. wide.
The fruit is soft and oval.
The species is very variable.

Advice of culture: It resists low temperatures well. Propagation is made by cuttings.
