Place of origin: South of Brazil.

Description: The plant have globular body or a little extended, with a slight depression on apex. It can reach 12 cm. high and between 5 and 10 cm. wide.
The ribs appear in number of 30 or more, divided in cleared and little prominent tubercles.
The radial spines are 20 or more, they are thin and acute, from up to 1 cm. in long and yellowish at first, but they become white soon. The central spines are yellow and they can be between 3 and 5.
The flowers present short tube, are red or orange and appear from the upper areolas of the stem.
There is a bigger variety with wide flowers and long and spiny tube.

Growing tips: The species grows better with some shade on warmer months. Propagation is made by seeds but also it can be made by rooting offsets from clumping units.
