Neoporteria subgibbosa
(Haworth) Britton & Rose

Place of origin: Chile. North and the south of Valparaiso.

Description: The species presents globular stem when the plant is young, but it becomes somewhat columnar with age, reaching 30 cm. high. In natural conditions it can reach 1 m. high and 10 cm. wide, but in these cases the specimens grow crawling and even hanging, sending numerous basal offsets from their base.
The ribs can be up to 20, very prominent, with wide areolas very close to each other. They are felted but they become naked with age.
The radial spines are approximately 24, very strong and pointed to the sides. The central spines are 4, of different sizes and strong, of about 3 cm. long. All the spines are of amber color at first, but quickly they become brownish red.
The flowers appear on the apex, near the center. They are pink, they have short tube, and measure about 4 cm. long.

Growing tips: Propagation is made by seeds or cuttings.
