Brazil, state of Bahia.
Description: The species presents spherical
stem of dark green color, although it becomes a little to
columnar with age, reaching about 10 cm. high and 15 cm. wide.
The ribs are acute and between 10 and 12. Each rib shows between
6 and 7 whitish areolas.
The radial spines are b. It produce small pink flowers which
give rise to red, elongated fruits of approximately 1.5 cm.
long. As this species ages, cephalium can be divided, and
through this process sometimes buds can arise that give rise
a new cephalium as well, but this phenomenon rarely takes
place in specimens in culture.
Growing tips: This plant is difficult to
grow, because it is very sensitive to humidity and it does
not tolerate cold. The minimum temperature should be 15º C
or 18º C.
It requires full sun in the warm months. Propagation is made
by seeds. |
