Argentina, province of Jujuy.
Description: The plant grows solitary or
in groups. The stem is globular, of shining green color, and
it is between 5 and 7 cm. wide, although it becomes somewhat
columnar with age, reaching about 12 cm. high. The upper part
is slightly depressed and presents a greater density of spines.
The ribs are between 12 and 14.
The areolas are about 3 mm and present felt of white or grayish
color.
The radial spines are between 8 and 10, of about 1 cm. long
and of pale brown color, but they become gray soon. The central
spines are between 1 and 3. They are dark, often red and strong.
The upper spine measures about 3 cm. long and it is hooked.
The flowers measure about 6.5 cm. wide, are of shining red
color and are thickened at the edge.
Advice of culture: It requires full sun
and very well drained soil. |
