Place of origin: Argentina, province of Jujuy.

Description: Very small species provided with spherical stems of about 2 cm. wide. It can be found very clumped forming dense groups.
The stems are of bluish green color and the root is axonomorphic.
The ribs, very thin and low, are 12.
The areolas present about 9 very short radial spines of white color. The central spines are 1 or 2. They are robust, dark and somewhat thickened in the base.
The flowers are actinomorphic and measure about 4 cm. They are yellow with the base greenish.
The species is very variable. There are different varieties like kraussiana, with flowers of intense yellow color which can reach 10 cm. wide and sublimiflora, with flowers of greater size and carmine pink color with a pink tint on its base.

Growing tips: TIt resist cold very well as long as it is dry. It requires full sun. Propagation is made by rooting offsets.
