Place of origin: Central and northern Mexico.

Description: The species have a heavy axonomorphic root and cylindrical and solitary stem, although it can be clumped by the base. The tubercles are long and of triangular shape. They are of greenish gray color, sometimes reddish in the extremity, from where the gray felted areolas appear. The basal tubercles disappear with time. The old specimens can reach 50 cm. high with 10 cm tubercles.
Spines are thin and flexible. In older plants the radial ones are 14, of about 5 cm. long and the central spines between 1 and 2 a little longer. In younger plants the radial spines are between 3 and 4.
The flowers are yellow with the outer part reddish. They are big and funnel shaped.

Growing tips: It requires deep pots and full sun. Propagation is made by seeds or by rooting offsets from older specimens.
