Central and northern Mexico.
Description: The species have a heavy axonomorphic
root and cylindrical and solitary stem, although it can be
clumped by the base. The tubercles are long and of triangular
shape. They are of greenish gray color, sometimes reddish
in the extremity, from where the gray felted areolas appear.
The basal tubercles disappear with time. The old specimens
can reach 50 cm. high with 10 cm tubercles.
Spines are thin and flexible. In older plants the radial ones
are 14, of about 5 cm. long and the central spines between
1 and 2 a little longer. In younger plants the radial spines
are between 3 and 4.
The flowers are yellow with the outer part reddish. They are
big and funnel shaped.
Growing tips: It requires deep pots and
full sun. Propagation is made by seeds or by rooting offsets
from older specimens. |
