Place of origin: Its true origin is not known, but the species become naturalized in all the tropical countries.

Description: The plant presents long, hanging stems of about 7 cm. wide and many branches. The articles show 3 thin, prominent ribs generally with a waved edge.
The areolas appear distanced from each other and with 1 or 3 short spines.
The flowers are about 30 cm. wide, they are nocturnal and are yellowish green on the outside and white on the inside.
The fruits are red color, about 10 cm. long and are edible.
This species usually is used like graft stock for other delicate species.

Advice of culture: It requires a lot of space to be able to grow well. Propagation is made by rooting articles.
