Mexico, states of Puebla and Oaxaca.
Description: The plant is big, and can reach
7 m. high. The stem have many branches which give rise to
new articles. These have between 7 and 9 sharpened ribs and
measure about 10 cm.
The radial spines are thin and between 2 and 5. The central
spines are between 1 and 2, but they are absent usually. All
are yellow, brown or gray.
The flowers are between 4 and 5 cm. long, have funnel form
and are pink on the exterior part and white with a pink strip
on the interior.
The fruit presents hairs of brown color, is very spiny and
red.
Growing tips: The species is very sensitive
to cold. Propagation is made by seeds, although it is very
easy to root articles. |
