South of Brazil, state of Rio Grande do Sul, near Cacapava.
Description: The species presents globular
stem, of clear brilliant green color and about 11 cm. wide.
The ribs are quite smooth, although sometimes slightly tuberous,
and they appear in number of between 5 and 6.
Areolas are oval, big, felted a little and there are 3 on
each rib.
Spines are 5, of yellow color, all radial, directed outwards,
with the exception of one of approximately 3 cm. long that
projects downwards.
The flowers have the tube covered of small pink grudges and
are about 11 cm. The inner part of the petals presents tones
that vary between lilac and white, with a pink band; whereas
the outside is of pink color.
The fruit is oval and green.
There is a variety called Buenekeri, with dark green color
stem and flowers of dark red or pink color.
Growing tips: It requires full sun and a
little heat in winter. propagation is made by rooting offsets. |
