| Place of origin:
From the south of Brazil to the north of Uruguay.
Description: The stem is brown and flattened,
although its tonality also can be reddish green.
It shows between 10 and 15 little prominent ribs, divided
by quite narrow furrows.
Areolas, very close to each other, are covered by hardly visible
felt.
Spines appear are about 7 and 11. They are small and reddish
or black.
The flowers are about 4 cm. long and 4 cm. wide, they show
brown color wool on the base of the tube and they are of yellow
color. In all the species of the genus, the flowers often
does not open and they are self pollinated.
The species is very variable as much in the length of the
spines as in color.
