Epithelantha micromeris
(Engelmann) Weber

Place of origin: The United States, west of Texas and north of Mexico.

Description: The plant, commonly known as híkuri, has globular stem, depressed on apex, but it becomes elongated as the plant grows old and even can ramify from its base forming small groups. It can be up to 8 cm. high and between 1.5 and 6 cm. wide.
There are numerous white spines and small tubercles on the stem.
The flowers are very small and white or pink.
The fruits are elongated and red.
There are different varieties like greggii, less robust; densispina and rufispina, with brown colored spines.

Growing tips: This species grows very slowly and is propagated by seeds usually. Soil needs to be a little more basic. You can do this by adding some dolomite to the mix.
