Echinofossulocactus coptonogonus

Place of origin: Mexico, state of San Luis Potosi.

Description: The stem is solitary when the plant is young, although it send basal offsets with age. It is globular, bluish green or grayish green, and flattened a little in the apical zone. It is about 10 cm. high and a little more wider than taller.
The ribs have acute edges, they are about 1.5 cm., and appear in number of 10 or 14.
The areolas, are covered of white colored felt when young, but become naked with age. They are very separated from each other.
Spines are heavy, yellow, and they are about 3 or 5. The upper ones are a little curved and flattened, mainly the central one which can be up to 4 cm. long. The rest are short. The inferior spines are cylindrical, about 1.5 cm. long and are directed downwards.
The flowers appear in the apical part of the plant, they are of carmine or violet red color and are about 3 cm.

Growing tips: The plant requires partial shade. It is propagated by seeds or by rooting basal sprouts.
