Discocactus
Pfeiffer gave name to this genus in 1837. It derives from Greek
diskos, disc, due to the circular and flattened characteristic shape
of this genus.
It is closely related to Melocactus and, like the plants from this
genus, also shows cephalium, but it is smaller.
Discocactus plants are from Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil.
