Eastern Brazil, state of Bahía.
Description: The stem is about 10 or 12
cm. wide. It is globular and flattened. As plant gets old,
it could send offsets from its base. Cephalium is covered
by gray wool and it is about 3 cm. high and 4.5 cm. wide.
The plant shows 21 ribs when adult.
Areolas are oval and covered by a clear yellow felt that they
lose with the age.
Spines are approximately 16 and about 3 cm. long. They are
radial, thin; of clear yellow color in the upper part of the
plant and grayish in the rest. They are twisted and cross
each other laterally. Its disposition causes that they seem
like the legs of a spider, and that's because the species
is called this way.
The flowers are small and of white color. Flowering is nocturnal,
like in the rest of the species of the genus.
The fruit is a little cylindrical and red.
