Copiapoa
Copiapoa genus has about 20 representatives from the Desert of Atacama,
in the North part of Chile. The name comes from the city of Copiapó,
capital of the province of Atacama. These plants are adapted to get
their water provision from the fog that often covers the coast, since
rain is extremely rare in the region. They are very slow growers in
culture.
The genus is multiplied by seeds or by rooting basal offsets from
the clumping species.
