Cleistocactus strausii

Cleistocactus

Cleistocactus is a very popular South American genera, with an important number of species. Some authors have put the sorts Akersia, Bolivicereus, Borzicactus, Setiecereus, Seticleistocactus, Winteria, Winterocereus, Yungasocereus within Cleistocactus. This is why the number of species varies according to different authors.
The name comes from Greek meaning closed cactus, because the flowers hardly open, remaining almost tubular.
Most of the species are of fast growth. Propagation is made by seeds or cuttings.
