Chamaecereus silvestrii
(Spegazzini) Britton & Rose

Place of origin: North of Argentina, provinces of Salta and Tucuman.

Description: This species shows very small and ramified stems. The bigger are about 15 cm. long, they grow horizontally and are between 1.5 and 2.5 cm. wide. They are of pale green color and normally have between 6 and 10 little prominent and tuberous ribs.
The areolas are very together and between 10 and 16 white spines grow from them. They are approximately 2 mm. long and arranged in a radial way.
Flowers appear in the lower part of the stems, are of scarlet color and are between 5 and 7, 5 cm. long.
It is very common to find a yellow variety grafted.

Growing tips: This species frequently is attacked by red spiders, and for this reason it is recommended that the growing environment is not too dry.
