Cereus peruvianus

Place of origin: Southeastern coast of Brazil. North coast of Argentina.

Description: The plant have columnar stem up to 15 m. high. It ramifies with articles between 10 and 20 cm. wide. Its color is bluish at first, but it becomes pale green as the plant grows older. The apex of the stems have many thorns and some wool, both of brown color.
Thera are between 6 and 8 heavy ribs bigger than 2.5 cm.
The areolas are round, brown and are separated about 2 cm. to each other.
Spines are brown. Radial ones are 6 and between 0.5 and 1 cm. long. There is only one central spine of about 5 cm.
Flowers are about 16 cm. long, are greenish brown on the outside and white on the inside.
The fruit is yellow or orange color, spherical and about 7 cm. wide.
The variety monstruosus is well known, in which the ribs are become deformed until the point to constitute a motley mass of tubercles. A dwarfed subvariety exists and is ideal for growing in pots.

Growing tips: Full sun and well drained soil. Plenty water when the plant this growing. Propagation by cutting or seeds.
