Mexico, state of Tamaulipas.
Description: Plant of columnar stem up to
6 m. It ramifies and its articles have 5 to 8 cm. wide.
The ribs, wide and prominent, appear in number from 7 to 9.
In the cleared edges of the ribs there are areolas. There
are big and circular. They are covered with grayish long hairs
and are very tightened, specially on the apex and in the zone
where the flowers appear.
On each areola there are between 8 and 12 radial spines of
1 cm. long and 1 central of 2 cm. In the younger articles
they are yellow and brown or grayish in the older ones.
The flowers are red or pink and have funnel form.
Growing tips: Propagation by cuttings is
preferable. The plant requires certain heat in winter and
a little shade in warm climates. Watering must be moderate. |
