This genera contains 5 or 6 species. The plants are globular when young and have a reduced number of prominent ribs, covered by white grudges in some species. The flowers are generally yellow. Although Astrophytums are easy to grow, they are sensitive to root rotting. For this reason precautions of not overwater must been take. Most of the species tolerate cold well.
