Description: The young plants have spherical
body, although, as the plants get old, it grows vertically
and adopt a columnar aspect reaching 35 cm. height and 15
cm. wide. The color of the stem is clear green and it has
8 prominent and acute ribs. It presents white scales, but
fewer in comparison with other species from the same genus.
The areolas are of yellow color, and approximately 5 mm. in
long. They are separated between 1 and 1.5 cm. The plant have
15 to 20 almost cylindrical spines, twisted in all directions.
They are black but they acquire grayish shades with age. It
blooms several times during the warm time and the flowers,
that are born in the areolas near the upper part, last 3 to
4 days. It size is between 6 and 7 cm. long. The color is
reddish on the outside and yellow on the inside.
Growing tips: This species requires less
watering than the others Astrophytums. |
