Description: The stem of this plant is spherical,
flattened, and can reach 10 cm. wide and approximately 5 cm.
high. The color is green or grayish green. It has 8 ribs divided
by small deep furrows. The areolas are arranged in the center
of the ribs. In adult plants they are separated 0.5 cm. to
each other. They are big, spherical, prominent, felted and
white colored. They are surrounded by tiny white points, which
appear more densely in the edges of the ribs and in the apical
zone. The flowers are 3 cm. long and 6.5 cm. wide. They appear
in the superior part of the plant and their segments are yellow
with the central part red.
The plant grows very slowly and, as the others representatives
of the genus, this species is easily hybridized.
Growing tips: Propagation is made by seeds,
as the plant grows solitary. Requires full sun, and some heat
in winter. |
